Tetramethylpyrazine attenuates endotoxin-induced retinal inflammation by inhibiting microglial activation via the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway

Studied how an ingredient (TMP) found in a Chinese herb (chuanxiong) could have anti-inflammatory properties. They found that TMP works by inhibiting the activation of a retinal immune cell (microglia). Overactive microglial cells can increase inflammation in the eye which potentially can lead to conditions like glaucoma.

What this means for Usher syndrome:  Understanding retinal inflammation supports development of preventative measures for inflammatory related eye conditions, which may develop secondary to Usher syndrome.
