When communicating with your instructors, it is important to maintain the importance of your accommodations. Be as open and honest as you want, but remember that you are in no way obligated to disclose the details of your disability to your professors. Keep an open avenue of communication with your professors, and hear what they have to say about what works in their classroom. Work together to ensure that the environment works for you, the professor, and every other student in the class. Do not be afraid to stick up for your needs, but be cognizant that other students may have accommodations you are unaware of. Your relationship with your professors can make or break your experience in the classroom, but do not hinge your success on their ability to teach or support the classroom. Do what you can. Keep in mind, the better your relationships with your professors, the more you are likely to learn, and the better your chances are for getting letters of recommendation!
