Megan’s Experience with the Natural Sciences

Most colleges require that students get a certain number of Natural Sciences credits before graduation. Hence, your chances of working in a laboratory setting is pretty high. I hate working in labs. I’ve always dreaded them. This is another case where working with your professor may come in handy. I took an Environmental Science class that was very lab-intensive, and my professor was aware of additional struggles I had with keeping up with the rest of the class. She was more lenient with me, which lessened my stress and overall allowed me to produce better work. Do not be afraid to ask for help in labs. Use your FM in large/small group settings or whatever other accommodation you have that will make it easier to participate. Do not expect your professor to change the structure of the class for you, but stick up for yourself if you feel that the structure of the class is impeding your learning. If the professor is unwilling to work with you, there is no shame in dropping the class (though be aware of grade penalties!). Keep up an active communication with your team in the disabilities office and with your professor, and you should be okay.
