Outcomes of cochlear implantation in Usher syndrome: a systematic review

This paper looked at 33 publications, which represented the experiences of 187 people with Usher syndrome who received cochlear implants. The results suggest that cochlear implants improved sound detection, speech perception, speech intelligibility, and quality of life for the majority of patients with Usher syndrome.

What this means for Usher syndrome: Most individuals with Usher syndrome experience improved auditory outcomes after cochlear implantation with early implantation being an important factor.
